The German company Conrad started producing diecast models in 1956, first as a supplier for the toy manufacturers Gescha and Strenco, since 1971 under its own name. The company is mainly specialized in 1/50th scale models of commercial vehicles, but in the early 1980s Conrad also released several detailed 1/43rd scale diecast models of contemporary VW and Audi cars, which were also used by the Volkswagen group as promotional models. Furthermore, Conrad reproduced several cars for Mercedes-Benz in 1/35th scale. Toy cars in 1/66th scale were also made by Conrad in the 1980s.
