Emek was founded in Finland in 1981 and took over from Stahlberg the production of 1/20th scale plastic promotional models for Saab and Volvo in the second half of the 1980s. However, only a few years later both car manufacturers decided to give up the Finnish-made plastic models and to use diecast models as promotional items instead. Emek thus developed only few new promotional models, namely the 1989 Saab 9000 in two body styles and the 1990 Volvo 240 GL estate. These models are slightly better detailed and finished than the earlier Stahlberg models. Since the beginning of the 1990s, Emek has concentrated on 1/25th scale plastic truck models and is now offering a wide range of European trucks with various cabs and body styles in this scale.
