Estrela is a Brazilian toy manufacturer based in São Paulo and established in 1937. The company name means "Star" in Portuguese, hence a four-pointed star was chosen as logo. Originally, dolls and wooden toy cars were produced, but later Estrela diversified into other toys such as games, figurines, trains and tinplate cars, and since the 1960s, more and more plastic products have been released. Especially in the 1970s and 1980s, the company introduced many static, friction-powered and battery operated plastic vehicles as well as slot cars in various scales. Several models of contemporary Brazilian prototypes were made in these decades, including battery operated models of VW Beetle, Chevrolet Monza and Fiat 147 in various liveries, as well as four unmotorized 1/32nd scale cars sold in a car transporter set: Chevrolet Chevette, Ford Maverick, VW Passat and Puma GTE.
