Faller was founded by Edwin and Hermann Faller in Gütenbach, Southern Germany, in 1946, and concentrated on model railroad accessories. In addition to these products, slot car racing tracks and vehicles in smaller scales were produced from the 1960s to the early 1980s. Some of the vehicles were also available as sliding models with non-motorized chassis. Furthermore, small non-motorized model cars with plastic body and diecast baseplate resembling the Hot Wheels models were made in the "Hit Car" series from 1969 to 1980. Special race tracks were available for these models. In 1992, Faller released a range of highly detailed 1/43rd scale plastic models for collectors, consisting of classic Mercedes-Benz cars and a VW Beetle, but this range was dropped due to high production costs after several years. Today Faller is still producing building kits for model railway layouts and the "Car System" allowing to motorize model cars on these layouts.
