The Japanese company Sakura (Japanese for "cherry blossom") made diecast model cars in 1/36th and 1/43rd scale in the 1960s and 1970s, mainly concentrating on European and American luxury and sports cars. In several cases, the proportions of the models are not very accurate, but the models are very heavy, solid and well finished, and later issues feature many opening parts. Sakura had already been in business in the 1950s, when the company produced a series of tinplate model cars in larger scales.
