Spark was founded by Hugues Ripert in 2000. Ripert had previously worked for the Vitesse group, and already his father André had been active in the model car business as one of the co-founders of Record. The first models were detailed reproductions of Le Mans racing cars made of resin in 1/43rd scale, which had not been modelled by the established manufacturers of diecast models before. The Chinese-made Spark models were cheaper than similar products by European manufacturers of handbuilt models. Spark gradually extended its range, which now also consists of resin models of road and concept cars, several diecast models in 1/43rd scale and some models in other scales. Hugues Ripert's company Minimax, which produces the Spark models, also manufactured and manufactures model cars for sister brands such as Red Line (Ferrari models) and Bizarre (unusual historic racing and road cars), as well as for other customers such as Replicars (Dutch model car distributor), the Japanese toy importer Kokusai Boeki Kaisha (Rêve Collection series) or Mercedes-Benz (promotional models). In 2019, Spark introduced the Milezim range of French cars. These resin models are made in a new factory in Madagascar by using 3D printing technique.
