Like other car companies, Toyota sells model cars as promotional items at its dealerships. In the 1980s, these models were mostly made by the Japanese manufacturers Diapet and Tomica Dandy, and later Minichamps became an important provider for Toyota promotional models in 1/43rd scale. However, Toyota has also released models which have been exclusively made for the car make and marketed as Toyota products, without any other indication of the manufacturer. On the initiative of the German importer, four rather simple 1/43rd scale diecast models were introduced in 1992: MR2, Celica, Supra and Land Cruiser. These models were made in China and were later reissued by AHC from the Netherlands. In the 21st century, Japanese dealerships offer detailed 1/30th scale models of contemporary Toyota cars as colour samples. Earlier issues such as the 2004 Prius come with opening parts and pull-back action, but these features which were later omitted in favour of more accurate body shapes.
