The Vatutin toy factory in Kyiv manufactured 1/43rd scale diecast models in the 1970s. Most of these models were copies of Italian Politoys and Mebetoys products, usually Italian sports cars by Ferrari, Maserati and De Tomaso. However, one Russian car was also modelled: In the early 1970s, the factory released a model of a contemporary GAZ 2401 Volga. The level of details on this model, which features opening front doors, hood and trunk lid, is similar to the Politoys and Mebetoys copies.
