The German company AMW started manufacturing 1/87th scale plastic models in Selb, Bavaria, in 1993. The company name is an abbreviation for "Auto-Modell-Welt" (German for "car-model-world"). On the one hand, the range consisted of contemporary European cars and classic VW cars (Beetle and Karmann Ghia). On the other hand, articulated trucks were available in many different liveries. The company name was changed into AWM in 1998, apparently in order to avoid confusion with other brands. The production of model cars under the new name was maintained until 2020.
