Carousel 1, a manufacturer specialized in detailed models of historic American racing cars, was founded by Frank Dalton in 1996. The first model was the Watson Roadster that dominated the Indianapolis 500-Mile race between 1956 and 1964. The Chinese-made 1/18th scale model was introduced in autumn 1998. Other Indianapolis racing cars (Kurtis Kraft, AAR Eagle, McLaren M16, Penske) in 1/18th scale followed, and Carousel 1 also released a range called "Hobby Horse" including 1/43rd scale models of the Watson Roadster in various liveries and of the 1911 Marmon Wasp, the first winner of the Indianapolis 500-Mile race. In addition to the model cars, the company also produced 1/48th scale airplane models. Production ceased in 2009.
