Fred Ertl III, the grandson of Fred Ertl Sr., founder of the Ertl toy company, started his own business in 1996. His company F.F. Ertl III Inc. released highly detailed diecast models under the Die-Cast Promotions and Highway 61 Collectibles brand names. While Highway 61 Collectibles has specialized in 1/18th scale models of classic American cars, Die-Cast Promotions mainly manufactures trucks, motorhomes, construction and agricultural vehicles in 1/64th, 1/50th and other scales. In 2018, the company was taken over by First Gear.
