Majorette was founded by Emile Véron in Villeurbanne, a suburb of Lyon, in 1961. The most important products of the French company always were diecast models of cors and commercial vehicles in various small scales from 1/55th to 1/100th. Besides this range Majorette also produced 1/36th scale models of American cars, a range of 1/24th scale sportscars in the late 1980s and several 1/43rd scale promotional models for the Fiat company in the late 1990s. In 1980 Majorette took over its competitor Solido, and after several changes of ownership, the company has been a part of the Simba Dickie Group since 2010. In the 1990s, a part of the production was moved to Portugal (originally at Novacar's) and to the Far East, and since 2002 most Majorette models are made in Thailand. Already in the 1970s and 1980s, Kiko had produced some Majorette models in Brazil for the local market.
