Max Models released their first diecast model, a 1/43rd scale Sauber Mercedes C9 Le Mans racing car, in late 1989. The model was commissioned by Danhausen from Aachen, Germany, the company that would start production of the Minichamps model car range in the following year. The "Max Models" range was originally made in France by Louis B. Surber SA, the manufacturer of Eligor and LBS models and Quiralu re-editions. In early 1991, production was transfered to China with the rest of the Minichamps line. The range was still extended by other Mercedes-Benz racing cars (C11, C291, 300 SL from 1952 in coupé and spider version), but after 1996 the models were marketed under the Minichamps brand name.
