The origins of Metosul date back to the 1940s, when Artur and Alfonso Henriques founded a company called Luso Celuloide in Espinho, Portugal, in order to produce plastic toys and household items. In the 1950s, Osul was introduced as brand name for these products. In 1965, the company started making copies of 1/43rd scale diecast model cars from manufacturers such as Corgi, Solido and others under the Metosul name. In the beginning, these models were mainly sold in Portugal, but when the Dutch model car distributor Replicars started making big orders in the mid-1980s, they also became more common in other European countries. The production of the Metosul models ceased in 1990.
