The Spanish company Pilen started production of 1/41st scale diecast model Formula 1 racers in the late 1960s. In 1969, 1/43rd scale models were introduced, partly using old tooling from manufacturers such as Corgi and Mebetoys. From 1974 to 1978 Pilen received castings from the French Dinky Toys company in order to manufacture the models for Dinky Toys and to sell them under the Dinky name. By the late 1970s the models were marketed under the Pilen name, and new 1/43rd scale models developed by Pilen themselves were added to the range, as well as some models in 1/64th scale. In the 1980s, the models were sold under the "Artec" name, but the baseplates still indicated Pilen as the manufacturer. TIn the second half of the decade, the company was bought by AHC from the Netherlands, who included some of the Pilen models in their own range. These models were produced until the late 1990s.
