Promotex was founded by Axel Meyer, Bernie Penner and George Wiebe in Altona, Manitoba, Canada in 1987. Originally the company distributed Herpa products from Germany in North America, but some years later it started assembling models from Herpa parts in a factory of its own. The range focuses on 1/87th scale American trucks by Mack, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner and other makes, which are available in many different versions. The Canadian-made models bear both the Promotex and the Herpa trademarks. Promotex also marketed under its own name 1/87th scale diecast models of the Freightliner MT-55 made in China by the American company Crown Premiums.
