Schabak was founded in 1966 in Nuremberg as a model car wholesaler and started production of model airplanes in 1972, first in 1/600th, later also in 1/250th and 1/500th scale. The first diecast model car of the German company was introduced in 1979: a 1/43rd scale VW Jetta. In the following years Schabak specialized in models of current German cars, mainly in 1/43rd scale, but later also in 1/24th and 1/35th scale. Many of these models were also sold as promotional models by the manufacturers of the original cars. Schabak models are well detailed compared to contemporary competitors, they feature many opening parts, and the quality even increased in the course of time. Schabak did not run a factory on their own, but let produce their models by other companies specialized in zinc or plastic die-casting technology. The last new Schabak models were developed in the late 1990s, and the company ended trading in 2006.
