Somerville was founded by Doug McHard and his wife Roly in Billinghay, Lincolnshire, England, in 1978. The company produced handbuilt white metal models in 1/43rd scale, primarily of popular English cars from the 1930s to the 1960s. The range also included several Volvo and Saab models originally made for RobEddie in Stockholm. When Doug McHard died in August 2002, the future of Somerville seemed to be incertain. But then the assets were bought by the Promod company, which re-launched the model car range.
