Jack Odell, one of the founders of the famous Matchbox brand, founded his own company called Lledo in 1982. The first Lledo models were similar to the Matchbox "Models of Yesteryear" range, but slightly smaller. After that several model cars in exact 1/43rd scale had already been released in the Lledo main series "Days Gone" (Morris Minor Traveller and Van, VW Beetle), Lledo started production of the "Vanguards" range in 1996: 1/43rd scale models of British cars from the 1950s to the 1970s and 1/64th scale truck models. Originally the Vanguards range was made in England, but soon production moved to China. In 1999 Lledo was taken over by Corgi. The new owner decided to keep the Vanguards name and released many new models in this range.
