Western Models was one of the pioneers in manufacturing handbuilt white metal models. The company was founded by Mike Stephens and his wife Joyce in 1973 and was originally based in Surrey before moving to Taunton, Somerset, in Southwest England in 1978. The range comprised classic cars from the 1930s, land speed record cars, historic sports and racing cars, American cars and luxury cars, mostly in 1/43rd scale, which were available in kit or built form. Western Models also produced the Small Wheels range of 1/43rd and 1/24th scale sports cars, manufactured models for the Metal 43 and Plumbies ranges on behalf of Danhausen in Germany and made the Kim Classics series for a company in Rotterdam. Production of model cars ceased around 2007, when the company concentrated on manufacturing commercial aircraft models, mostly in 1/200th scale.
