Majorette was founded by Emile Véron in Villeurbanne, a suburb of Lyon, in 1961. The most important products of the French company always were diecast models of cors and commercial vehicles in various small scales from 1/55th to 1/100th. Besides this range Majorette also produced 1/36th scale models of American cars, a range of 1/24th scale sportscars in the late 1980s and several 1/43rd scale promotional models for the Fiat company in the late 1990s. In 1980 Majorette took over its competitor Solido, today both manufacturers are part of Smoby, a French toy company. In the 1990s, a part of the production was moved to Portugal and to the Far East, and since 2002 most Majorette models are made in Thailand.
