Some model cars are made by unknown manufacturers. These include, among others, models made of wood, tin, clay and other materials by craftsmen in developping countries, e.g. in Madagascar, Latin America and Southeast Asia. Some mass-produced inexpensive toy cars don't bear any indication of the manufacturer either, e.g. Chinese-made tinplate and plastic cars from the 1960s and 1970s. A reason for this anonymity was the fact that these companies often made unauthorized copies of models originally made by other manufacturers. But sometimes even the manufacturers of detailed 1/43rd scale models for collectors can't be identified. Mainly concerned are handbuilt models from Russia, because several model makers producing their own white metal models or making conversions of diecast models prefer to stay anonymous and to provide selected shops exclusively with their products. Even some current modelcars made in Chinese factories are sold without any indication of the manufacturer's name on the model and on the box. Furthermore, the manufacturer's name is sometimes not indicated on promotional models for the car industry.
