In 1987 the Swiss model railway manufacturer Fulgurex introduced the Rextoys range of 1/43rd scale diecast model cars. The first model was a 1930s Cadillac V16, other classic luxury cars such as the Chrysler Airflow, the Packard Super Eight and the Rolls-Royce Phantom IV followed, as well as a model of the Ford V8 in various versions. Originally the models were made by Vitesse in Portugal, later issues were produced in France in the factory of CEF Replex, a manufacturer otherwise specialized in models of military and commercial vehicles. The last new Rextoys models were released in 2001, and the company closed down three years later.
