The Dux brand name was used by the company Markes & Co. in Lüdenscheid, Germany, from 1933 onwards for tin toys, metal construction sets, and toy film projectors. Before producing its own toys, the company, which was founded by Karl Markes in 1904, was a parts supplier for other German toy manufacturers. Until the 1960s, Dux also produced car models, initially made of tin, later also of Bakelite and finally of plastic. The cars were sold as kits, which could be fitted with different engines. The models produced after World War II (various VW and Mercedes-Benz, Porsche 356, Borgward Hansa 1500 and 1800, BMW 501, Studebaker coupé, Veritas racing car) are often in approximate 1/35th scale. The company closed down in 1982.
