Ruby Toys was founded by John Hope in Little Wymondley, Hertforshire, England, in 2013. He wanted to produce diecast models of commercial vehicles which had been a common sight on British roads in the 1940s and 1950s, but had never been modelled by any of the diecast toymakers of the period. Ruby Toys were manufactured in England in the style of Dinky Toys commercial vehicles from that era, i.e., without glazed windows and interior detail and in about 1/45th to 1/50th scale. They were released in limited editions, usually 100 copies per livery. The first model was a 1946 Albion AZ5N van, followed by a 1952 Dennis Pax as a brewer's dray and box van. More models of classic British vans, trucks and buses were added to the range in the following years. The final model of the series, a Fordson 7V, was introduced in April 2020. John Hope died later in the same year, but in 2022, his brand was revived by the model car shop Promod with the release of two new versions of the Albion van.
