The French manufacturer Safir produced a series of 1/43rd scale classic cars from 1961 to 1978. The models were made of diecast with plastic parts. In 1970, Safir introduced an additional series under the name of Champion: plastic models of Le Mans and Formula 1 racing cars with metal baseplates in 1/43rd and 1/66th scale. Besides the racing cars, the range in the smaller scale also included some commercial vehicles. 1/20th scale diecast models of the Alpine A110 and the Citroën 11 CV were also released in various liveries under the Champion name. While the Citroën later appeared as a re-edition in the Eligor range, the Alpine was reissued by Macadam, a brand of the Portuguese Vitesse group, in the early 1990s.
