I.M.U. stands for "Interspeed Modellauto Ülsmann", a manufacturer and distributor of model cars in smaller scales based in Berlin. The company was directed by André Ülsmann and was in business in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Originally it produced a series of cars in 1/160th scale made of white metal. These were soon followed by 1/87th scale plastic models, with a focus on small cars from the 1950s, but several more modern road cars were also part of the range. The quality of these models is rather average, but some of them (BMW Isetta, VW Karmann-Ghia) feature opening parts. In 1991, I.M.U. introduced some replicas of truck models by Wiking from the 1950s. 1/87th scale plastic bus models made by Stettnisch, another model car manufacturer from Berlin, as well as handbuilt resin models in 1/87th scale and some re-editions of 1/43rd scale resin models by Record from France were also sold under the I.M.U. name. When the company went bankrupt in 1994, the moulds were taken over by Stettnisch. Some of the models were then marketed under the I.M.U./Euromodell name for several more years, others were later re-edited by s.e.s.
